Accessing Support Coordination with your Core Budget
Are you finding it hard to find the right services for you? Good news - as a temporary measure in response to COVID-19, the NDIS has made it easier to access Support Coordination by using your Core budgets. In this article we explain what that means for you.
How can Support Coordination help?
Support Coordination helps you put your NDIS plan into action by finding and connecting you with the right service providers for your needs. Your Support Coordinator can also work with you to understand the details of your plan and how you can use your budgets to access various supports.
With COVID-19 having a big effect on people’s lifestyles and, potentially, the supports they need, Support Coordination can be very useful. Recognising this, the NDIS has made Support Coordination available to all participants with a Core budget.
What does this change mean for me?
- If you DO have Support Coordination included in your NDIS plan, you can now use your Core budget to access additional hours of the service when you run out of your Capacity Building funds.
- If you DO NOT have Support Coordination included in your NDIS plan, you can now use your Core budget to access the service.
How long will this change last?
This change is not a permanent one. You will be able to use your Core funding to access Support Coordination until February 2021.
How can I find a Support Coordinator?
Finding the right Support Coordinator for you depends on several factors, including the size of their service provider network, their local knowledge, and – most importantly – how passionate and professional their team is.
If you are Plan Managed or self-manage your NDIS funding, you have the freedom to choose any Support Coordinator you like. If you’re agency-managed however, you will have to select a Support Coordinator who’s specifically registered with the NDIS to accept Core funding.
TIP: If you’re agency managed but would like to have access to a wider choice of Support Coordinators, it’s easier than ever to switch to Plan Management or self-management.
