Accessing Support Coordination with your Core Budget

As a temporary COVID-19 NDIS measure, it has become easier to access Support Coordination. In this article we explore what that means for you.

How can Support Coordination help?

Support Coordination helps you put your NDIS plan into action by finding and connecting you with the right service providers for your needs. Your Support Coordinator can also work with you to understand the details of your plan and how you can use your budgets to access various supports. 

With COVID-19 having a big effect on people’s lifestyles and, potentially, the supports they need, Support Coordination can be very useful. Recognising this, the NDIS has made Support Coordination available to all participants with a Core budget.

What does this change mean for me?

  • If you DO have Support Coordination included in your NDIS plan, you can now use your Core budget to access additional hours of the service when you run out of your Capacity Building funds.
     
  • If you DO NOT have Support Coordination included in your NDIS plan, you can now use your Core budget to access the service.  

How long will this change last? 

This change is just a temporary one to support you through COVID-19. You’ll be able to use your Core funding to access Support Coordination for six months from 25 March 2020 – however the NDIS will review this in June to ensure it’s still needed.

How can I find a Support Coordinator? 

Finding the right Support Coordinator for you depends on several factors, including the size of their service provider network, their local knowledge, and – most importantly – how passionate and professional their team is. If your plan is agency-managed, your Support Coordinator need to be registered for Support Coordination to be able to deliver these services. If you’re Plan Managed or self-managed, you can access any Support Coordinator, whether they are registered with the NDIS or not.
