Plan Partner | VIC
"The scheme is still new and daunting for many people, but you can – and will – achieve great things with the assistance of the NDIS."
What is your role with Plan Partners?
I am a Plan Partner for Victoria. In my role I engage with the community, NDIS participants and service providers to ensure they are aware of, and receiving, the quality support that Plan Partners provides.
What did you do before Plan Partners?
I started my career in the field as a disability support worker before working as Local Area Coordinator, rolling out the NDIS in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. Both of these roles provided me with the experience of how to respectfully assist people with a disability and gain expert knowledge on the NDIS.
What has been your favourite Plan Partners moment?
If I had to pick one, it would be when I helped someone living overseas to sign up a family member. We organised a Skype meeting at a time that worked for both of us and broke down the plan so it was fully understandable. It’s easy to feel helpless when you’re in a different time zone, so the fact that we could work together to bring their family member’s NDIS plan to life was fantastic, and were very grateful for the support.
What drives you?
What drives me is knowing that there are NDIS participants and their family members or carers around the country who require assistance. Getting told that my assistance has made someone’s NDIS experience less daunting really drives me to do my best and to make sure I can assist people as much as possible. Not only does this benefit NDIS participants and their families and carers, but it’s also helped me to learn and grow – something that I’m truly proud of and excited by.
What advice would you give someone starting their NDIS journey?
Be patient. The scheme is still new and daunting for many people, but you can – and will – achieve great things with the assistance of the NDIS. Be clear and precise in your planning meeting and if you need assistance, reach out! There are many people who want to help and want to see success in the space.
