Does the NDIS fund iPads?
The NDIS generally considers iPads, tablets and computers to be everyday technology, which means an item that is not unique to someone with a disability. Because of this, they are not typically funded as standard NDIS supports.
However, there are some situations where an iPad may be funded if it is directly related to a participant's disability and helps them achieve their NDIS goals.
These items will usually be claimed under replacement supports.
Communication and Accessibility needs
For example, an iPad may be considered when it's being used as a communication device for someone with complex communication needs, or as part of a disability-specific assistive technology solution.
Evidence for claiming
To be considered for funding, participants generally need supporting evidence from a health professional, such as a speech pathologist or occupational therapist, showing why the device is necessary and how it meets their disability-related needs.
