NDIS Provider Spotlight: PlusOne Mentoring
Local, professional disability support
At Plan Partners we're shining a light on some of the NDIS service providers we work with to share their story and help create better outcomes for participants.
Below we chat with Founder, Ned, and Support Worker, Connor, from PlusOne Mentoring.
Ned, Connor - tell us about PlusOne Mentoring
PlusOne Mentoring is an Adelaide-based mentoring service supporting young people to build confidence, independence and real-life skills. Our team is made up of high-quality mentors: uni students, allied health students, coaches and genuinely great humans who are passionate about making a real impact.
We’re very selective about who joins our team because we understand how influential a mentor can be in a person’s life. We believe getting the right fit from the start makes all the difference.
What sort of services do you offer?
We primarily provide one-to-one mentoring tailored to each participant’s interests and goals. Sessions may focus on social skills, emotional regulation, independence, community access, health and wellbeing, life skills, and overall goal development. In practice, that might look like cooking together, learning to use public transport, building job readiness skills, getting outdoors, playing sport, or simply developing confidence through consistent, positive role modelling.
Why do people come to you for help?
Families often come to us when they’re tired of surface-level support. They want someone who is matched to them, who genuinely cares, and who shows up consistently. We’re not here to “fill hours” - we’re here to build relationships that lead to personal growth.
Word of mouth has been one of our biggest drivers because families see real change.
What's the goal or overall aspiration you have for your customers?
Our goal is simple. We want every participant to feel capable, connected and confident in the real world. We want them to build the skills and belief they need so that, over time, they rely less on support and more on themselves.
How important is a tailored approach in your work?
It’s everything. No two participants are the same, so no two mentoring programs should look the same. We carefully match mentors based on personality, interests and goals. Sessions are built around what genuinely motivates the individual, not a generic activity list!
What’s something that people should know about your services that most people don’t know?
We put a huge emphasis on mentor matching and relationship-building before anything else. We won’t rush into ongoing support without ensuring it’s the right fit. That foundation is what makes everything else work.
What advice would you have for someone wanting more information?
The best way to understand whether mentoring is right for you is to chat through goals, challenges and what you’re hoping to achieve.
