NDIS Provider Spotlight: Sunny Pine Home Care

Local, professional disability support

In the latest edition of Plan Partners provider profile, we're putting the spotlight on Sunny Pine Home Care and sat down for a chat with Business Development Manager Ally Pardy.

Hi Ally, tell us a bit about yourself and your team.

I’m part of the team at Sunny Pine Home Care, where my role is largely about connecting people, providers and opportunities, and making sure the right supports come together around for each participant and their team.

We’re a hands-on team that works closely across intake, operations, support workers and leadership. What I really value is that we can have honest conversations, problem-solve together and stay focused on what is actually going to work for the person receiving our support.

What sort of services do you offer?

Sunny Pine provides NDIS registered supports, including Supported Independent Living (SIL), Short-term accommodation (STA), Medium-term accommodation (MTA) and Community participation (CP).

A big part of our work is also helping people through the transition periods into supported accommodation. That can include working alongside families, Support Coordinators, hospitals, allied health professionals and other providers to make the move as smooth, safe and comfortable as possible.

Why do people come to you for help?

Often, people come to us because they need more than just a vacancy or a support roster. They need someone who will listen, understand the bigger picture and help work through the practical details like compatibility, funding, staffing, transition planning, routines, risks and what the person actually wants their day-to-day life to look like.

We try to be realistic and transparent from the beginning. If something isn't the right fit, we would rather have that conversation early than make promises that don't work long term.

What’s the goal or overall aspiration you have for your customers?

The goal is for people to feel settled, supported and genuinely at home, not like they are simply receiving a service in a ‘facility'.

We want the people we support to have greater choice, independence, and opportunities to be involved in their community, while also knowing that their support is there when they need it.

Ultimately, success looks different for every participant, and that is exactly how it should be.

How important is a tailored approach in your work?

It’s essential.

Two people can have the same diagnosis, similar funding or even live in the same home and still need completely different approaches.

We look at the person as a whole. Their personality, routines, communication style, goals, relationships, interests, support needs and preferences. Good support shouldn't require someone to fit into our system; wherever possible, the support should be designed around them.

What’s something that people should know about your services that most people don’t know?

Probably how much work happens before a participant even moves into a SIL supports with Sunny Pine Home Care.

A good SIL transition isn't simply finding a vacant bedroom. There are conversations around compatibility, staffing, funding, accessibility, risks, routines, allied health recommendations, house dynamics and what the participants want from their home, housemates and supports.

We also don't expect people to make such a big decision from one meeting or property tour. Where possible, we encourage gradual introductions and transition planning so everyone has an opportunity to get comfortable and make an informed decision and trial periods, so if the fit isn’t for them, that’s okay, we can assist and provide documentation for their team where required.

What advice would you have for someone wanting more information?

Start the conversation ASAP!!

You don't need to have every answer, a completed assessment or even know exactly what service you need before reaching out.

Ask questions, visit different providers, understand what is included, talk about your non-negotiables and don't be afraid to ask how a provider will actually deliver what they're promising.

And if Sunny Pine isn't the right fit, we're still always happy to have a conversation, share what we know or help point someone in the right direction.
