NDIS Provider Spotlight: True Support Services

Local, professional disability support

As part of our Provider Spotlight series, the Director of True Support Services tells us about the great things they are doing and how they support participants.

Stuart, tell us about True Support Services

We're a disability support organisation based in Adelaide that specialises in supporting children, teenagers and young adults.

We are youth specialists. Our team is made up of passionate mentors from backgrounds including teaching, youth work, sport, music and creative arts. What brings us together is a genuine desire to support young people to build confidence, develop independence and feel connected to their community.

We place a strong emphasis on relationships. When young people feel understood and supported, real growth happens.

What sort of services do you offer?

We provide mentoring and capacity-building supports for young people within the NDIS.

This includes one-to-one mentoring, community access, social skill development, capacity building in daily living skills, and group-based programs designed to build connection and confidence.

We also run True Music, our inclusive music program where young people can learn instruments, sing, collaborate and build friendships in a creative and supportive environment.

As youth specialists, everything we do is centred around helping young people grow socially, emotionally and practically.

Why do people come to you for help?

Families often come to us when they’re looking for something more than traditional support work. They want mentors who can genuinely connect with their young person and help them grow in real-world settings.

Because our team has diverse interests - sport, music, gaming, fitness, creativity and education - we’re often able to match participants with mentors who share similar passions. That connection builds trust and engagement quickly.

Families also value that we understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with working specifically with young people.

What's the goal or overall aspiration you have for your customers?

Our goal is to support young people to live the life they choose.

We want the young people we work with to grow in confidence, build independence, develop meaningful relationships and feel like they belong in their community.

Ultimately, we’re focused on long-term capacity building, not just short-term support.

How important is a tailored approach in your work?

It’s essential.

No two young people are the same, so support should never be one-size-fits-all. We take the time to understand each participant’s goals, strengths, challenges and interests so that supports are engaging and purposeful.

When support is tailored and relationship-based, outcomes are far stronger.

What’s something that people should know about your services that most people don’t know?

Many people assume disability support is task-based, but at True Support we focus heavily on mentoring and personal growth.

A big part of what we do is helping young people discover what they’re capable of - whether that’s building confidence through sport, learning new life skills, or expressing themselves through programs like True Music.

We care deeply about creating spaces where young people feel safe, valued and empowered.

What advice would you have for someone wanting more information?

Take the time to talk with providers and ask about their approach. The right support should align with your values and feel like a good relational fit.

The NDIS can feel overwhelming, but when you build the right team around you, it makes a significant difference.
