NDIS changes to Supported Independent Living (SIL) coming in 2026

There's a change coming to NDIS rules that may affect participant’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) supports.

From 1 July 2026, the NDIS requires that all providers who deliver SIL supports are NDIS registered before 1 October 2026. This change is designed to help ensure supports are delivered safely and consistently.

What this means for participants

From 1 July the following will apply:

What you can do

If you’re not sure whether your SIL provider is registered yet, you can:

What happens next

Many service providers are already working through the registration process, so there is no need to be alarmed if your SIL provider is not yet registered.

If your provider decides not to register and change of provider is needed, starting early helps make the transition smoother and reduces stress.

Your provider should work with you, your family, or other authorised representatives to make sure you continue receiving the support you need. You can also contact your LAC or My NDIS Contact for support.

What this means for service providers
