[00:00:00] Give us a coffee — takeaway. Oh, hey guys!

[00:00:13] Tristan here. Welcome to my NDIS journey.

[00:00:15] Today I have my NDIS planning meeting — so let’s go.

[00:00:26] What do I have with me?

[00:00:28] I’ve got my NDIS planning booklet — all 16 pages completed.

[00:00:31] I’ve also got a couple of letters from my doctors explaining my disability in more detail to help my planner understand it.

[00:00:39] And I’ve got a couple of people coming to support me — including my dad.

[00:00:43] So we’re ready. It should be good.

[00:00:47] Let’s start.

[00:00:52] So guys, I’ve just finished my first NDIS planning meeting.

[00:00:55] To be fair, I was a little bit anxious going into it.

[00:00:57] It’s a big thing — a big change in your life — so it’s only natural to feel that way.

[00:01:05] It was actually a little different to what I expected.

[00:01:06] It was more informal — very much a conversation with my NDIS planner, which I really valued.

[00:01:14] My planner was a social worker by trade and knew the disability sector really well.

[00:01:20] She was very keen to hear about my interests and my passions.

[00:01:26] And importantly — my goals.

[00:01:28] Your goals are so, so important. I can’t stress enough how important they are.

[00:01:33] They frame your supports.

[00:01:34] It was a great experience talking about my goals, my vision, and running through the supports I need.

[00:01:42] What was great is that the planner had clearly done some research about my disability.

[00:01:46] She suggested assistive technologies I hadn’t even considered.

[00:01:50] There are so many options out there — and I really valued that guidance.

[00:01:54] One thing I probably would have done differently is create a more detailed log of what a standard week looks like.

[00:02:00] That would help flesh out exactly what my disability entails day-to-day.

[00:02:06] I’d almost recommend keeping a log — every time you need assistance — to show your planner what your week actually looks like.

[00:02:16] The big takeaway from the whole process was that I genuinely felt listened to.

[00:02:18] I felt heard.

[00:02:20] That was the most reassuring part — that for once I could put what I want first and live the life I want to live.

[00:02:30] So guys, the planning meeting went really, really well.
