[00:00:00] Good news, everyone — my NDIS plan review was approved, and I have a new plan!

[00:00:11] Hey team, Tristram here, and this is My NDIS Journey.

[00:00:14] As you can imagine, I am absolutely stoked.

[00:00:19] What really impressed me was how responsive the NDIA was to my review request.

[00:00:23] They walked through everything with me, spoke with me again, and I provided additional evidence.

[00:00:29] The whole process took about two months — from lodging my initial review request to receiving the new plan in the mail.

[00:00:37] The important thing to stress is that the NDIA kept me informed throughout the process.

[00:00:41] They let me know what was happening and how long things would take, which I found really impressive.

[00:00:47] During this process, I also provided additional evidence, including a functional assessment.

[00:00:53] That assessment really helped paint a clear picture of me as a person and my support needs.

[00:00:57] It was a very valuable piece of evidence and definitely helped move things along.

[00:01:03] It’s important to remember — you’re not alone in the review process.

[00:01:06] There are people who can support you.

[00:01:09] For me, Plan Partners and my Support Coordinators were fantastic.

[00:01:13] They helped me understand the process and the importance of providing evidence to support my review request.

[00:01:19] If you don’t have Support Coordination in your plan, speak to your Local Area Coordinator (LAC). They can assist as well.

[00:01:29] Don’t feel like you’re alone — there are people who want to help.

[00:01:32] So what were the big differences between my old plan and my new plan?

[00:01:35] Firstly, Core Supports.

[00:01:38] When speaking to the person reviewing my plan, they recognised that I required more core supports — carers and support workers to help me become more independent.

[00:01:49] This tied directly to my goals. I had stated that I wanted to be more independent.

[00:01:54] The functional assessment clearly showed that I needed additional support to achieve that independence.

[00:02:00] Now, I no longer have to rely as heavily on informal supports like my parents and friends.

[00:02:05] I can be more independent and live life on my own terms.

[00:02:09] Under my previous plan, my funding for repairs was quite limited.

[00:02:14] For example, if a wheel popped on my wheelchair and my hoist battery broke at the same time, I would have had to choose which was more important.

[00:02:22] But they’re both essential.

[00:02:24] Now I have the reassurance that if multiple things break at once, I can get them fixed — and my life can continue without unnecessary disruption.

[00:02:34] One thing I learned through this process is that it’s easy to become very emotional.

[00:02:39] This is your life — of course you’re invested.

[00:02:43] But remember, your NDIS plan is a living document.

[00:02:46] There is a process for reviews and for getting things changed.

[00:02:49] If you’re not happy, please ask for more.

[00:02:52] It’s your right.
