[00:00:00] Hi team, Tristram here, and welcome to another episode of My NDIS Journey.

[00:00:09] Today I’m going to walk you through what an NDIS plan looks like — so you can better understand yours.

[00:00:17] When you receive your NDIS plan, like mine, it will be broken up into three different sections:

[00:00:21] Core Supports, Capacity Building Supports, and Capital Supports.

[00:00:33] Your funded supports are determined by your support needs and what you discussed during your planning meeting.

[00:00:39] It’s important to remember that funding must be considered “reasonable and necessary.”

[00:00:45] For me, I think of Core Supports as the things that help you live your day-to-day life.

[00:00:50] This can include personal care at home, help with meals, daily activities, going to sport, socialising with friends, or going to work.

[00:01:03] Transport to and from these activities is also included.

[00:01:08] Core Supports can also cover low-cost consumables — small items that help you live day-to-day.

[00:01:12] For example, something as simple as straws.

[00:01:17] Because of my disability, I need straws to drink. It’s a basic daily need, and it’s funded within my plan.

[00:01:24] When it comes to transport funding, there are three different tiers.

[00:01:28] Depending on your lifestyle and work or study commitments, you’ll fall into one of those tiers.

[00:01:32] If you’d like more information about transport funding, I recommend speaking with your plan manager or support coordinator.

[00:01:37] It’s also important to know that funding within Core Supports is flexible.

[00:01:42] For example, if you have support worker hours remaining but urgently need consumables like straws, you may be able to reallocate funds within Core Supports.

[00:01:54] Think of it as a flexible pool of funding.

[00:01:56] Use that flexibility to your advantage — but if you’re unsure, speak to your plan manager, support coordinator, or Local Area Coordinator (LAC).

[00:02:08] They’re there to help you understand and implement your plan.

[00:02:10] If you’re feeling overwhelmed, reach out for support.

[00:02:23] There are resources available to help you understand your plan and ensure you get the most out of it.
