[00:00:00] Hey team, Tristram here, and welcome to another episode of My NDIS Journey.

[00:00:09] In the last episode, I explained what Core Supports are.

[00:00:12] In this episode, it’s all about Capital Supports and Capacity Building Supports.

[00:00:21] Capital Supports are your big-ticket items — things like wheelchairs and other assistive technology.

[00:00:34] Capital Supports can also include Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).

[00:00:41] In simple terms, this can include home modifications — structural changes or renovations that make your home more accessible.

[00:00:50] Capacity Building Supports are a little more complex.

[00:00:53] If you want to do more for yourself and build your independence, Capacity Building funding is designed to help you develop skills and improve functionality.

[00:01:04] For example, my Capacity Building funding includes support from an Occupational Therapist (OT).

[00:01:10] An OT can come into my home and help brainstorm ways for me to become more independent.

[00:01:16] For instance, if I want to be able to press light switches independently, an OT can suggest solutions — like larger switches or assistive devices — so I don’t have to rely on someone else.

[00:01:30] Capacity Building Supports are divided into nine different categories.

[00:01:33] Your individual support needs determine which categories you receive funding under.

[00:01:40] In my plan, I receive funding under Improved Daily Living and Support Coordination.

[00:01:46] Improved Daily Living helps fund therapeutic supports like occupational therapy.

[00:01:50] Support Coordination helps me coordinate my supports, access services, and implement my plan effectively.

[00:01:59] If you have Support Coordination in your plan and you’re feeling overwhelmed, your Support Coordinator can help unpack everything and guide you through the process.

[00:02:13] If you don’t have Support Coordination, your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) can provide similar guidance.

[00:02:20] Between Support Coordinators and LACs, you have resources available to help you understand your plan clearly and simply.

[00:02:27] Remember — you don’t have to navigate this alone.
