"Remember there are no shortage of good people out there who will assist you in your journey - just reach out."
What is your role with Plan Partners?
I’m a Support Coordinator in New South Wales, so I get to work closely with people to help them get the most out of their NDIS plans and achieve their goals.
What did you do before Plan Partners?
I’ve worked in the disability sector for the past 30 years and have had a number of roles. It’s been great to experience the NDIS rollout and see just how much it’s changed people’s lives for the better – it really makes me excited for the future of Australia’s disability sector. Before entering the world of disability, I owned several hairdressing salons, worked in the prison system, and was a youth worker.
What has been your favourite Plan Partners moment?
One moment that really sums up why I love working here and why the NDIS is so important involves a customer who’d was basically segregated from society, never leaving their room. We helped get them connect with the support they needed and before I knew it they were getting out there, catching public transport, learning new life skills and were even trying to find a job. It was a complete 180! It was an amazing moment for everyone here to see them leave their comfort zone and join society again.
What drives you?
To be the voice for the voiceless and to be there for those who need a bit of support and a helping hand.
What advice would you give someone starting their NDIS journey?
Ask questions, be brave, be honest and remember there are no shortage of good people out there who will assist you in your journey - just reach out.
