Managing your NDIS budgets is very important, as these funds are used to pay for the supports you need to achieve your NDIS goals.

There are two big things to avoid when it comes to your budgets: spending too much (overspending) and spending too little (underspending).

Let’s take a look at how you can stay on top of your budgets and come in on target to get the most out of your NDIS plan.

Underspending: how to avoid spending too little

Underspending might sound like a good thing, but it means your missing out on the supports you deserve, and can in fact lead to your NDIS budgets being reduced in the future.

If you're spending too little of your budgets, this can be the result of not being able to connect with service providers, or not understanding an NDIS plan’s budgets - but in many cases it’s the same cause as overspending: not actively tracking your spending against your budget.

Running out of funds too soon might leave you having to pay for a much-needed support out of your own pocket, or having to go without. Either way, it should be avoided at all costs!

The key to not overspending your NDIS budget is to actively manage it. By keeping a close eye on how you’re tracking, you can adjust your spending accordingly. Spent more than you thought in one month? Wind it back the next, so you have enough money to cover the rest of your plan.
