NDIS October changes explained

Starting from 1 October there's a few changes coming to the NDIS, including registration requirements for SIL, no-contact policy updates and potential budget reductions during plan reviews and reassessments. To help keep you up to date we've outlined some of these updates below.  As always, we'll keep providing more information on these topics when we know more.

New contact rules

Essentially from 1 October the NDIA have the power to suspend a person’s NDIS plan if no response is received after a set amount of contact.

If no response is received 90 days after the plan is suspended, the NDIA can revoke a person’s status as a participant.

NDIS changes to Supported Independent Living (SIL)

There's a change coming to NDIS rules that may affect participant’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) supports.

All providers who deliver SIL supports are NDIS registered before 1 October 2026. This change is designed to help ensure supports are delivered safely and consistently.

Changes to support budgets

As part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill, some NDIS support budgets will be reduced over the coming 12 months.

These will only apply to plans created or reassessed from 1 October, or for plans renewed from 1 February 2027.
