Creating art has always been a powerful coping mechanism for me when times get tough. Unfortunately, I’ve had a lot of inspiration to draw from in recent years, almost succumbing to a deadly disease and dealing with mental health issues.
So, when it came time to create my NDIS plan, it’s no surprise that, alongside wanting to become more active in the community, one of my main goals was to be able to continue making art. Thanks to art therapy classes at EACH, I found a way to achieve both of my NDIS goals while taking my creativity to the next level.
With Plan Partners as my Plan Manager, I can now fully focus on my art. The help is there. Even if you don’t know how to say the right words, Plan Partners will help in a way you might not expect. I can now relax knowing the financial management of my NDIS plan is in safe hands and I’m getting the most out of my funding. I go to my art class, chat with some great people, sit down and just paint a painting.
“I encourage other NDIS participants who struggle to find their way through the NDIS to ask for help when they need it.”
These sessions have given me the opportunity to make my art in a supportive, group environment – and as a result I’ve gradually improved my mental health, coming out of my shell to become a leader and mentor to others in the group. I’ve also recently had several pieces featured at a large exhibit as part of International Day of People with Disability.
Many people don’t realise there are organisations like Plan Partners out there that can help. They can show you a different path you might not have thought of yourself. And if Plan Partners can do that for you, fantastic. That’s all you need.
